Awareness is more than a single day — it is an ongoing commitment to education, remembrance, and action. Hope Above Fear leads and participates in awareness initiatives that honor lives lost, reduce stigma, and equip communities with knowledge that saves lives.
We ensure the message continues to reach new community members while remaining rooted in compassion, remembrance, and hope. Hosting these events year after year reflects Hope Above Fear’s commitment to sustained awareness, not one-time action.
As a sponsor of Hope Above Fear, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of those we serve. Your support will help us to expand our programs and services, reach more people in need, and make a lasting difference in the community.
International Overdose Awareness Day is observed worldwide to remember and honor lives lost to overdose, acknowledge the grief of families and communities, and challenge the stigma surrounding substance abuse.
It is a day of remembrance, compassion, and collective commitment to prevention.
Hope Above Fear hosts an annual International Overdose Awareness Day event on August 31st located at Valerie's House in Pensacola. This time creates space for healing, remembrance, and education. Through community gatherings, memorial moments, and resource sharing, we honor those we have lost while uplifting the voices of families and emphasizing that every loss matters — and every life is worth fighting for.

National Fentanyl Awareness Day focuses on education, prevention, and the urgent need to protect youth and families from the dangers of synthetic opioids. We know all too well the impact that losing someone you love can have, and we believe awareness must also create space for remembrance, healing, and connection.
For Hope Above Fear, this day is about more than sharing information — it is about honoring lives, uplifting families, and ensuring those lost are never reduced to statistics.
Each year, we host a community-centered event designed to educate, honor, and bring people together. While each gathering has looked a little different, every event has shared the same purpose: to create meaningful opportunities for families and friends to publicly honor their loved ones while raising awareness about the realities of fentanyl.

If you don’t know someone who has died from fentanyl, consider yourself lucky. These families should have known. Awareness is the first step.
With this knowledge, we ALL have the ability to change the narrative for our community, our city, our state, our nation.

In 2023, Hope Above Fear partnered with Lakeview Center to launch a county-wide billboard campaign featuring the face of Isaiah Shepard and the message, “Rethink. Not My Child.” Displayed across Escambia County, the billboard challenged a common and dangerous misconception — that fentanyl only affects “other” families.
The campaign quickly became a conversation starter throughout the community, prompting families to talk openly about substance use, risk, and prevention. By placing a real face and a powerful message in public view, the campaign helped humanize the crisis and bring awareness into everyday spaces.
Public awareness is a powerful tool for change. Through billboard campaigns and community rallies, Hope Above Fear brings prevention and remembrance into shared public spaces. By extending awareness beyond organized events, we place prevention, remembrance, and hope into the daily lives of our community.
